MHHS Multipurpose Centre Display Case Morisset Hospital Historical Society Display Case

Morisset Multi-Purpose Centre.

Pictured is our 2005 display. We change this display of hospital memorabilia each October and are always looking for suitable items to display.  If you have items you are prepared to lend us to display please contact us.

Our display is located in the hallway of the Morisset Multi-Purpose Centre in an alcove before the entrance to the large activities room.

The Morisset Multi-Purpose Centre is located at 143 Dora St Morisset, opposite the golf course and next to the Ambulance Station.

The Centre is open from 8am- 4pm Monday to Friday. Ph (02) 49737000

You will need to sign in at the office as you enter the Centre before proceeding to the display.   Restored Morisset Hospital lantern

Restored Historic Morisset Hospital Lantern - Morisset Multipurpose Centre

Restoration of the lantern was completed on the 9th May 2002 and the search for a suitable home was commenced.

The lantern was finally installed at the Morisset Multipurpose Centre on Monday 17th October 2005.

lIGHT FITTING BEFORE RESTORATION

The rather sad looking light fitting before restorative work commenced.

 lamp post 2005

The ornate caste iron lamp post as it was in November 2005 standing on the lawn in front of the Recreation Hall.  Further towards the waterfront, two ancient palms, one of which can just be seen in the right of the photo, flank the lamppost.

2005 Recreation Hall

Morisset Hospital Recreation Hall November 2005

Sadly, in recent times, it appears to be a case of a slow demolition by disinterest and neglect of this magnificent building.

Just off centre to the right of the photo, the lamppost, dated 1878, can be seen on the lawn in front of the Recreation Hall.  The clock tower never actually had a clock installed.  The clock destined for Morisset Hospital was mistakenly sent to Kenmore Hospital and installed there where it remains today.

Please contact us if you have any items suitable for display.
